Support for Eclipse 3.5 or 3.6 #98

Closed GoogleCodeExporter closed 9 years ago

GoogleCodeExporter commented 9 years ago
Currently Ubuntu 11.04 comes with Eclipse 3.5 and Fedora 14 ships with Eclipse
3.6, so would it be possible to allow for support of 3.5 and/or 3.6?

I'm very sorry to say this, but supporting older versions of Eclipse is very
unlikely to happen.

The reason is that we are using Xtext 2.0 as the foundation of protobuf-dt, and
it requires Eclipse 3.7. Supporting other Eclipse versions means rewriting the
plugin with an older version of Xtext, which may not support or provide all the
features that we need.

Is it possible for you to upgrade to Eclipse 3.7? It comes with a good number
of new features and fixes. Of course, depending on what you use it for.

I've upgraded to 3.7 after voting for this, so no big problem.
Thanks for plugin anyway.

Upgrading is obviously possible, but then I have to maintain the software
myself instead of letting the package manager of the OS do it. It's probably
not a huge deal, because I'm sure that Fedora 15 and Ubuntu 11.10 will probably
ship with 3.7, so it's probably not worth a whole rewrite.
