I’ve investigated a little more. Seems the culprit isn’t the <pre>
tag, but the <code>
tag. Is this known?
@paulozoom it looks like a CSS issue in your file. (check if you have something set to width: 100%
—that’s a common culprit I’ve found.)
when I put your code into a template I use here’s what I get

@dvschultz Right, I had some old cold from a ebook boilerplate.
margin: 2em 0;
margin-left: -3.5em;
display: block;
I think it was the display:block that did it.
