This is both insane from a production perspective, and the lack of documentation makes it a guessing game.

Kindle for Mac pulls from the guide items in the .opf file

jeankaplansky commented 10 years ago

Depends on whether it's KF8 or Mobi7. If it's KF8, then the Go To stuff is pulled from the OPF. If it's Mobi7 (at least on the Kindle DX, which is the only current device left to run Mobi7) then it actually pulls from the NCX.

I’m not entirely sure its as simple as that @jeankaplansky. Kindle for Mac definitely pulls from the guide items in OPF, while Kindle Fire pulls in the nav.html I think?

We did some pretty extensive testing on the Kindle DX, so I'm confident about where the "go to" is coming from on that device. KIndle for Mac was not one of the apps we tested with. It makes sense though that it would pull from something other than what the rest of the Kindle devices pull from though, since the Kindle Fires (HD, HDX, HD 8.9, HDX 8.9, paperwhite and Kindle 4/5) all do pull from the nav.html now that I think about it. The Mac and the PC app have not been updated in a long time.
