Linen Research 🧐 #26

We need to standardise on our bed linen so we don’t have a hodgepodge of different sizes, patterns, brands and quality. For all their faults, I have nothing against buying IKEA linen for the simple reason that: as a supplier, they aren’t going to disappear overnight. whereas, sadly, a local supplier might not be around in 3 years when we need to re-stock/replace.

Ascending order of importance for bed linen:

  1. Longevity/durability.

IMO: Zero point burning money on Egyptian Cotton - no matter how lovely it is - if it will only last a few months of washes/use.

  2. Comfort
  3. Price

@iteles do you have T25m to research local (Braga and surrounding area) linen suppliers?

Or is this a task we could assign to someone like Silvia?

Agreed, this is why I was keen to standardise somewhat now.

I asked Madalena and Studentville gets all their (embroidered and on-embroidered) linen from Costa e Cruz Lda geral@costaecruz.pt https://www.costaecruz.pt/

What we need to decide is what we want: undersheets, pillowcases and duvet covers? Are we buying duvets for every bed? 🙃

@iteles great that you have a supplier. 👌 They appear to be based in Guimarães. #local 📍 Keen to get a price quote. 💶

@iteles could you please prepare an email to geral@costaecruz.pt to get answers to the following questions:

  1. What are the dimensions for their Capa de edredão and corresponding Edredões? 🛏️
  2. We will have 24 beds in our "Alojamento Local" and want a "luxury" feel to our sheets - but without "Ritz" budget ... What is their best price for single duvet cover + pillow cases, single duvets?
  3. A quote including dimensions and Price for both Bath/Shower (White/Grey) 🚿 and Pool Towels (Blue) with and without embroidery. 🏊‍♀️

Their "Catálogo de produtos" (product catalog) is basically brochureware that opens in modals https://www.costaecruz.pt/cama

image

Clicking on "Mais informações" (more info) takes you to their "Formulário de Contacto" (contact form): https://www.costaecruz.pt/contactos.php?prod=39

Which is a total cop-out and personal details grab so they can price the products according to the buyer. 🤦‍♂️

The reason I'm still tempted by IKEA in the short term is simple: standardising. https://www.ikea.com/gb/en/p/smasporre-duvet-7-5-tog-30457998/

Length: 200 cm Width: 150 cm

Or the "summer" version: https://www.ikea.com/gb/en/p/smasporre-duvet-4-tog-30457026/

For me the price:quality is a no-brainer:

I think that unless we need to get the sheets embroidered for "branding", we should just go with the IKEA versions and move on to the next pressing decision. We don't need a "bulk discount" at this early stage. And if we later decide that we want to buy in bulk e.g. we refresh the sheets for all beds at once in 2-3 years time, we place an order for 30 sets such that we always have 6 spares fore the daily change and any mishaps ... But still I don't see them being cheaper ... maybe higher thread count? 🤷‍♂️

Im at IKEA and there is a promo in the more expensive (less ironing) duvet cover and pillow case combo:

And there is only one unit of the €12 set … So I’m bringing the €15/set ANGSLILJA … The name totally rolls of the tongue 😜
