Curtains #6

I'm increasing leaning towards having curtains instead of blinds for two simple reasons: Durability (I've seen people break blinds really easily!) and ease of washing (much easier to remove individual curtains and put them in the washing machine.

Furthermore if we sew magnets into the botttom corners of the curtains we can achieve a tight close.

I'm thinking. Of doubling the fabric so it's white on the outside and darker on the inside, however, I think we should test it to ensure that it doesn't become too dark...

The tricky thing with curtains is to achieve the modern look (they usually look frumpy) and a tight close (without being claustrophobic). Looking forward to testing these.

In past projects when I've needed blackout fabric, I've just gone to Leroy Merlin because it's nearby: https://www.leroymerlin.pt/search?q=blackout%20curtains&sort=price-asc

Specifically bought this curtain: https://www.leroymerlin.pt/produtos/decoracao-e-tapetes/cortinados-e-acessorios/cortinados/cortina-atmosphera-cinzento-escuro-poli-ster-260-x-140-cm-83661667.html

260 x 140 cm for €22.04 ... €8.48/m ... the quality is decent, but these dimensions aren't particularly useful and I've had "off-cuts" that are basically waste.

What would be great would be to find a PT supplier of fabric by-the-meter We have bought fabric from Feira dos Tecidos: https://feiradostecidos.com/en/collections/tecidos-para-decoracao?uff_t3buzc_productType=Blackout

image

€24.95/m is absurdly over-priced; non-starter.

iLoveTecidos.com looks like a good supplier: https://ilovetecidos.com/12-tecidos-por-rolo

280cm wide and €6/m is decent. But this is not blackout fabric. I was already thinking of making double curtains; black on the outside of the bed and white on the inside. Doubling the fabric pushes the cost up to €12/m but given the width of 280cm means we can use just one meter per bed.

FYI: Soundproof curtains tend to have 3 layers: https://www.amazon.com/Soundproof-Curtains/s?k=Soundproof+Curtains

iLoveTecidos.com does sell a BlackOut that is 320cm wide and €14,25/m: https://ilovetecidos.com/black-out/765-tecido-100-opaco-grande-largura.html

This looks decent:

Had a quick look on AliExpress and it doesn't appear to be much cheaper: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005005580007627.html

@iteles have you done any research into fabric suppliers in PT and found a supplier you would recommend? 🔍 💭

There was a Black Friday discount. Not expecting it to be perfect. Still looking for a PT supplier. 🔍

I haven't had any reason to look for fabric for now but can also look!

Just that you looked for fabric for wedding dresses and children’s clothing a while back … But if you don’t have a good supplier, don’t worry. I think this “iLoveTecidos” supplier looks ok. (Even if they are based in Spain, not PT…)
