Sent delivery quote request to IronMongeryDirect: image

From my research, there kits are v. competitively priced and having a kit means it all works together.

@nelsonic I don't think we got an answer to this, did we?

nelsonic commented 5 years ago

@iteles Yes, we did. but I "held off" on ordering as (a) I found a cheaper (and much better) lock on eBay: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Securitron-Assa-Abloy-MSS-1-Magnetic-High-Security-Switch/332923033599 image

(b) We don't need to have the locks on the doors until the first person joins us.

We need to have some locks on some doors if we want to move any of your machinery/our stuff in whilst there are still workmen with access to the house though.

nelsonic commented 5 years ago

@iteles technically, until we have a Backup Power Supply see: https://github.com/dwyl/home/issues/25 all Magnetic Locks will default to open if the power is cut. And since the "consumer" unit is easily accessible in the house, a minimally intelligent person can simply manually flip the switch to unlock the door(s). So ... having the Magnetic locks is only a "suggestion" ("please don't enter this room), it's not deterrent.

My plan is to order a bunch of different locking mechanisms and experiment with them to see which ones are easy to "crack" ...

This lock will serve our needs: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1000KG5-Wires-DC12V-Electric-Lock-Door-Magnetic-Electromagnetic-Lock-Holding-Force-For-Access-Control-Electric-Bolt/32916103519.html image

We will use the "Power to Unlock" mode such that a power cut will result in locked doors. We would definitely need to have a Backup Power Supply to ensure people don't get "stuck" in the event of a Power Cut or Surge.

These are more expensive but have a key and thumb open as "backup": https://www.aliexpress.com/item/Fail-Secure-Electric-dead-bolt-With-Mort-Lock-Cylinder-keys-locking-when-power-failure-12V-24V/32801125931.html image

Still considerably cheaper than the ones Chico is proposing.
