Power over Ethernet (PoE) Switch for Powering Electronics #18

My plan is to power the 12V Door locks using 12V PoE using the Cat6 already in place.

I want the doors and other security systems to be on a separate network from the internet so I will be using a different switch to power them. (distinct from the Ubiquiti switch that will be powering our Wifi). I want a small and inexpensive PoE switch to start developing/testing the door entry system so that if I make any mistakes and fry the switch during dev it's not going to cost me a fortune.

The main difference between the two models is that TP-Link is smaller and thus has less heat-sinking which means it needs a fan to cool it. The main criticism of the product on Amazon is the fan noise: image

I'm quite "sensitive" to noise ... 🙉 😞 So I'm thinking of ordering the Netgear one. We're probably going to need more than one switch. I could just order the "big" 16-port switch now ... https://www.amazon.co.uk/NETGEAR-16-Port-Gigabit-Ethernet-Unmanaged/dp/B07DFBX347/ image

But I want to test everything first with a cheaper switch that I won't be as sad to break/burn. Will order the bigger switch once everything is working for the first few doors.

@iteles am I OK to place the Amazon order? (do you need anything else?)
