is a 177 year old Travel company famous for inventing
and popularising "all-inclusive package holidays".
The Elm Elm Progressive Web Application (PWA)
is hosted at: https://roaminsure.co.uk (feedback welcome!)
TCG is listed on the London Stock Exchange (FTSE 250) and is,
as far as we know, the "biggest" (by revenue/users) company
using Elm in production to date.
This is not to "brag" as the "Roam Insure"
is nowhere near the size/scope of NoRedInk or Cuture Amp,
rather it's to re-assure anyone out there considering using Elm
for their next App (or portion of functionality)
that ELm is more than "mature" and "reliable" (enough) for a "big company"
to take a (calculated) "risk" on. Elm is Awesome!!
The App was built as a collaborative effort between an "in-house" leadership team (Product Owner, UX Designer, Scrum Master, Security & CTO), and external developers @dwyl (London), Globant (UK + Argentina), Ciklum (Ukraine) & Contino (DevOps). (21 people in total!) ThomasCook has several dozen web "products" (apps/sites) in 18 languages ranging from an end-to-end travel booking & management e-commerce websites and several "native" apps for travel-related use-cases. Angular, Vue.js and React (inc React Native) have all been used extensively in the past to varying degrees of success. When we got a chance to "pitch" to re-build the Travel Insurance product "from scratch", we explained why/how ELm elminates the most "insidious" bugs (Type errors, JSON decoding failure and other unexpected/unpredictable behaviour) TCG has faced in the past, we framed the (initial) "re-tooling" investment as a "Total Cost of Ownership" saving (we estimate Elm will save TCG 70% costs over the 2 years!) it was an easy decision to scrap the React codebase and start fresh! Since launching the app there have been an influx of people applying to work for TCG specifically because of the "functional" tech stack; it's a not "difficult to find developers" who love Elm.

While creating https://github.com/lpil/elm-companies/pull/29 I realised that we still haven't published our "Case Study" for the Roam Insure Progressive Web App. This is a "fail" on my part as I've been "busy" with other things ... 🤦♂️ 🙄
