Project / App Name ? - Githubissues

Given that the App Naming Guidelines: "Name should not begin with 'GitHub' or 'Gist'": (we cannot simply call our App "GitHub Issue Backup")

We need to come up with a name that:

[ ] describes exactly what the App does. (no "{{Color || Adjective}} ++ {{Anmial}} names!!)
[ ] we can get a Domain Name for (regardless of the TLD for now)
[ ] we can get a "short url" for.
[ ] we can get good SEO for. (i.e. don't try to use a word or words that are widely used!)

e.g: if the Project/App was called Git Issue BackUp ("GIBU") we would use a short url like: gibu.io/dwhq321 would link to https://github.com/dwyl/hq/issues/321 (we would need to define an algorithm for generating the "alpha" part of the /path in this case I've used the "first two chars of :owner" ++ "first two chars of :repo" ... i.e. dw+hq where there is a conflict we try more chars from :owner or :repo until it's unique ...)

So that we can great service for the community!

Naming things is "hard" so delegating to our resident "names" person: @iteles

We need a few words that describe the service we are creating ...

Backlog
Accountability
Log
History
Version
Revision
Rollback
"Safe"
Timetravel 😉

How's this for a laugh ... some domain squatter wants $4,999 for gib.io: 🤣 I think we'll pass ... 👎

anyway, we still need a name! 💭

How would we feel about gitibu instead of gibu? It's an extra syllable but with git in the name I feel like it means more than gibu.

@iteles we are trying to get our domain as short as possible. ✂️ I kinda agree that having the word git in the name makes it clearerer what it's for. Could we "meet in the middle" with "gitbu" ? https://domainr.com/gitbu.com?q=gitbu It won't have the extra i in it which stood for issues. But that will be good if (when) we expand to saving code.

I very much prefer the more generic 'gitbu' to having the i in there anyway. Shame the .com is unavailable.

It pains me that ios are the most expensive of all 🙄

Yeah, io is expensive, but at least it's available unlike gib.io (see above).

Annoyingly this person has the GitHub account: https://github.com/gitbu 😞 So we may need to use something else as the GitHub username ... 🤔

yeah, that could be good for re-directing and/or as use for landing page. however it might be a "trademark violation": https://help.github.com/articles/github-trademark-policy which we would rather not have ... 🤔
