Sunroom (Greenhouse/Multi-purpose Dining/Creative/Workshop Room) ? #14

Open nelsonic opened 6 years ago

We are fortunate to have a decent amount of back garden space: 6m x 25m = 150m2:

braga-back-garden

Note: this image does not do it "justice", at present it is still very much a "building site"!

Our plan has always been to have a Greenhouse where we can grow seedlings of edible plants.

The question we recently asked ourselves is: can we make the Greenhouse a multi-purpose space?

Goal

Our goal is to make a room which has:

Getting pretty close ... šŸš§

But still have a lot to layout. šŸ™„ This "Waterfall" approach to building stuff feels like it takes forever!! ā³

Yesterday I added the roof beams and polycarbonate roof panels dwyl/home#247 to the model:

What do you think when you see a picture like this:

I'll tell you what I think ... Awesome! šŸ˜ and we can do so much better!! šŸ‘Øā€šŸ’»

I think of a roof top garden that had to be accessed through a trapdoor šŸ˜ in south London

@carolrmc lol. Yeah that was a fun project on a shoestring. No regrets. Wish I had photos. šŸ˜¢ But back to the topic of this issue: the Sunroom. ā˜€ļø It's difficult for me to explain what is in my head ... these kinds of "mood" pictures are the best I can do. šŸ’

Today I finally managed to get FreeCAD to cooperate (after many crashes/errors!!) And defined the "Entrance" to the lower level which includes 14 steps, 7 planters and a slide dwyl/workshop#137:

Sunroom-Slide-Stairs-Planters

It's definitely far from "perfect" so it would be really good to get your feedback @iteles šŸ™

nelsonic commented 1 year ago

With the building for context:

sunroom-with-entrance

@iteles if you have 5 minutes it might be faster for you to review the model at my desk šŸ–„ļø and then give feedback as a comment. šŸ’¬

iteles commented 1 year ago

Yes, I'd love to review this with you at your desk for a more contextualised view

iteles commented 1 year ago

5 mins turned into an hour but it was really useful for you to talk me through the drawing layer by layer, what an unbelievable amount of work that has gone into this already!

As you said the stairs would be covered to prevent them from becoming a river in heavy rain, they're looking great. Sorry I don't have better feedback for you but it's looking good for now šŸ’ŖšŸ»šŸ‘ŒšŸ»

nelsonic commented 1 year ago

Added the house (the big block behind the sunroom) for context:

Not going to waste time making the existing buildings/walls high fidelity. This is just as a reference.

nelsonic commented 1 year ago

Also extended the roof to cover the stairs and slide so that rain doesn't go down the slide or stairs:

Added the Tree Planters to the lower level: šŸŒ±

sunroom-with-base-tree-planters

There will be 10 trees planted and they will be trained to stick closely to the wall using Espalier technique:

espalier

This is one of the features I'm most looking forward to. šŸ˜ It will take 10 - 20 years for the full effect. ā³ But it will be worth the wait. šŸ‘“ The goal is to completely hide concrete walls with plants.

There are many trees in the list we can choose from: https://github.com/dwyl/phase-three/issues/6 But need to understand if we need multiple trees of each type to pollinate and thus have fruit. šŸ” #HelpWanted šŸ™

I spent T25m searching for ready-made models of Trees that I could drop into the FreeCAD model. šŸŒ³ But no luck. This isn't SketchUp ... šŸ™„

Next: I'm going to work on the rebar for the base slab. šŸ‘Øā€šŸ’»

nelsonic commented 1 year ago

Provisional List of 10 Trees I would like to plant in the lower level:

  1. Apple
  2. Banana, see: https://github.com/nelsonic/sunroom/issues/3
  3. Clementine
  4. Fig
  5. Guava

Note: Grapes, Kiwis and Passion Fruit vines will be planted in the main garden to cover the upper structure.

  6. Lemon
  7. Mango
  8. Nectarine
  9. Orange
  10. Persimmon

Your input/feedback is very much wanted. šŸ’¬ šŸ™

nelsonic commented 1 year ago

Half-way through the base level slab rebar and I've already "spent" ā‚¬300 in materials and at least as much again in time

sunroom-base-rebar-half

Will continue with the rebar placement tomorrow morning ... šŸ§‘ā€šŸ’» ā³ Should be able to send the model to the Structural Engineers once the base slab is complete. šŸ¤ž

nelsonic commented 1 year ago

Really want to get this done so stayed up a bit longer šŸ™„ to finish it:

With base concrete slab covering all the rebar:

It's like it never happened ... šŸ™ƒ
