If the Covid19
pandemic has taught us anything it's that "touch points" are a nightmare ... 😷
For that reason, I'm considering the "no touch" infra red option for door exit button:
https://doorentryonline.co.uk/acatalog/No-Touch-exit-button.html
An identical-looking unit is available cheaper and with "free" shipping to PT on AliExpress: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005005138101661.html
The last time I ordered from AliExpress it was fast and did not incur any import taxes: https://github.com/dwyl/learn-cad-cam-cnc/issues/64#issuecomment-1220164450 so I'm inclined to use it again. 💭
@iteles please LMK your thoughts on this.
The reason I'd like to get this ordered and installed is simple:
Our toddler 👼 knows how to open the front gate "by myself" ...
If we're playing outside and they are enticed to leave the property for any reason (e.g. a puppy outside ... 🐶),
they can be out of the gate and in the middle of a main
road faster than an adult can react
respond
...
Sadly, as with everything having a free-standing house with multiple entrances/exits, this is not a case of buying ONE of these ... we would eventually need to install FOUR ... 💸 🙄
No discount for buying more than one item:
So I'm tempted to order ONE just to see it in-person.
and if it's not very attractive, we can consider something else
. 💭
Executive decision: ordered 1 unit:
Will report back once it arrives. ⏳
Sounds good. I don't think this is anywhere near as intuitive as the press to exit buttons which are very recognizable but we can test it.
It will likely need an additional sign above it.
@iteles agreed.
I 100% prefer the green large physical button: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005003239228653.html
If we order 4 of these it's €57.63
= €14.40 each
How would you feel about having both and put them next to each other
such that people have the <option>
to either press a physical button or swipe their hand touch-less?
For reference, the FOUR buttons would be:
@iteles if you have a preference for a different button, please share the specific one. 🙏
I feel like having both is overkill and people would just be confused by what the other one does if you have the physical button.
I'd be happy with the toy touch lesss ones and we make a little sign for them that looks like the green button! Unless you think they'll be too sensitive and we'll be opening doors just be brushing past.
@iteles my idea is that the physical <button>
would be above the touchless
one on the wall:
The by having the physical <button>
above basically people's hands will go near the touchless
when reaching for the physical <button>
and it will automatically open the door. 🪄
We can even have a counter attached to them to count how many times people use each one.
Note: I realise that it's total overkill to have TWO buttons... So I would only do this for the front door which is an "emergency" exit ... Ultimately the
physical <button>
is still electronic, not mechanical So we still need some sort of failsafe. 💭
Agreed. Sounds good to me 👌🏻
@iteles which of these Exit Buttons appeals to you?
