Opening this issue as a placeholder for researching Polycarbonate Panels for the Sunroom Roof.

https://www.bricodepot.pt/placa-policarbonato-transparente-300x100-cm-8691756900113

image

Would like to have continuous panels ~6m each panel.

nelsonic commented 1 year ago

Can't say I like these kinds of panels: https://atila.pt/produto/chapa-policarbonato-1mm-cristal-greca-250-40chapa-com-649m2-sai-a-1292e-m2/

image

But they are available in the length we will need.

Note: not spending anymore time on this today. Just had do a quick materials check while doing my CAD work ... If anyone else has time to research this please drop a comment. πŸ’¬ πŸ™

Quite a few useful tips in this video. But I think we will do this differently. For now I'm just keeping an open mind. πŸ’

This is where the polycarbonate panels will go in #14

We need to find a good (high quality + reasonable price) supplier of these panels. Ideally 3m long x 1m wide. but if there are 6m long panels that’s great too! 🀞🏼

Our local Leroy Merlin has 3000x1050mm panels for

€46.59 per panel or €14,79 / mΒ²:

This is the price ceiling (max) for 6mm panels. Ideally we would use the 10mm panels if they aren't more expensive.

I don't see Leroy Merlin here, so I checked them first.

They have multiple options. Given I'm not sure which shape you want, I picked these 2 with the most reviews:

Placa policarbonato alveolar DUPLA CRISTAL 6MM 3000X1050MM Ver detalhes do produto

https://www.leroymerlin.pt/produtos/construcao/telhados-e-coberturas/placas-de-policarbonato-e-poliester/placa-policarbonato-alveolar-dupla-cristal-6mm-3000x1050mm-16293081.html

Placa poliΓ©ster ondulada PEQUENA ONDA NATURAL 3000X900MM

I couldn't find one that was exactly 3 by 1 meter, or 6 by 1. Although, I would guess they probably have it, but just not online.

Brico Depot also has a couple of options https://www.bricodepot.pt/construcao-reformas/coberturas-telhados/placas/paineis-de-policarbonato

Sadly not enough reviews

In case you don't want to go through a big chain store πŸ’Έ

I also found Plexicril. They are located in Braga and have great reviews on Google Maps

image

https://www.plexicril.com/produtos/policarbonatos/policarbonato-perfilado/

No prices on their website.

I also found MUNDIPERFIL near Barcelos, but no prices too.

@nelsonic worth clarifying these will quickly be covered in greenery so as not to make an infernal racket for the bedrooms when it's raining (that no double glazing can help).

nelsonic commented 1 year ago

@Stephanymtr Thanks very much for doing some research into this. πŸ” πŸ‘ It appears as though BricoDepot is the most reasonably-priced supplier. πŸ’° πŸ’

Just need to figure out how to attach the Polycarbonate panels to each other and the sub-frame. Thinking of using these "H" profiles in when there are two panels next to each other: https://www.bricodepot.pt/perfil-de-policarbonato-h-300-x-1-cm-8691756903145

image

And for the ends, these Aluminium "U" profiles: https://www.bricodepot.pt/perfil-em-u-desigual-de-aluminio-200-x-1-x-2-1-cm-3232637406451

image

I'd prefer to use Aluminium everywhere because it's considerably more durable than Polycarbonate.

In addition to the panels, we need guttering to capture the water: https://www.bricodepot.pt/caleira-em-pvc-curvo-branco-125-mm-8011031254906

image

With all the pieces the total is quite a lot: πŸ’Έ

image

But again, this is the cheapest supplier. So I think I'm just going to place the order so we can get it ASAP. ⏳

nelsonic commented 1 year ago

Order for the Polycarbonate Panels, Guttering and Fixings placed. πŸ›’ βœ…

The total with shipping was €399.64 including €34.94 shipping ... πŸ™„

image

Expecting delivery early next week. Lots to do before then. πŸ‘· πŸ—οΈ 🚧 ⏳

nelsonic commented 1 year ago

This order was for 15m2 ... scale it up by almost 5x for the "main" roof of the Sunnroom ... 😬 Going to contact Plexicril for a quote for 70m2 for the "main" roof. https://www.plexicril.com/produtos/policarbonatos/policarbonato-alveolar/chapas-de-policarbonato/

image image

Technical spec: mf0052_e_210402.pdf Read it. Snooze. Looks like a very similar to product to what everywhere else is selling. πŸ‘

nelsonic commented 12 months ago

our order arrived way before we expected it!! That’s great! Means we can crack on!

IMG_5973 IMG_5974 IMG_5975

but there’s still loads of prep work to do before we can place the panels. ⏳

nelsonic commented 11 months ago

Prepared the layout for the structure that will hold the polycarbonate panels: https://github.com/dwyl/sunroom/issues/11
