I think this is an excellent idea. It may seem expensive for the company in the short term but ultimately it will be unimaginably cheaper in the medium to long term. Let's add this to our agenda to discuss this week @markwilliamfirth :+1:
@nelsonic do you know what the Zappos offering is?
@markwilliamfirth https://www.google.co.uk/search?q=zappos+leaving+bonus+how+much+2017 Most recent article is: https://www.inc.com/david-burkus/why-amazon-bought-into-zappos-pay-to-quit-policy.html which indicates it starts at $1000, rises by $1000 per year to a max of $5000.
This is either super generous or low depending on your view point... As you know I prefer to be on the "generous" side and offer more. There's nothing worse than having a person on the team who doesn't want to be there. So if we can give the person an easy way to excuse themselves that benefits everyone involved.
@iteles we really need to define individual OMTMs so we know exactly when someone meeting/exceeding expectations or "dragging their feet". When do you have time to discuss?
@nelsonic Tomorrow morning works for me?
Note: this question was raised by @markwilliamfirth in https://github.com/dwyl/hq/issues/242 but I think it deserves it's own dedicated thread/discussion to capture everyone's thoughts.
We've all met people who don't want to be somewhere ... it's not good for anyone.
For those who have not yet read the book "Delivering Happiness" I highly recommend it! https://www.amazon.co.uk/Delivering-Happiness-Profits-Passion-Purpose-x/dp/145550890X (we have 3 copies of the book and we have the audiobook if you prefer, just ask!)
The book is both entertaining and informative and should be on everyone's list of books to read
before
joining @dwyl.If you haven't read the book, there's a good summary of the "$1000 Quitting Bonus" on Harvard Business Review: https://hbr.org/2008/05/why-zappos-pays-new-employees
The Idea 💡
After a person has worked with the company (on a full-time basis) for a few weeks (or months) they decide it is not for them (for what ever reason), they are encouraged to leave with the offer of a "Quitting Bonus".
How Much?
if we decide to adopt this for @dwyl how much should it be? should it be a "flat" rate or based on the person's contracted compensation?
