Setting a 'vision' #9

Setting a vision (stemming from 'Starting with Why') is one of the most important things someone in a leadership position can do. All of your goals and OKRs will tie into this.

Whether it's motivating your entire organisation to follow a goal, firing up your team and colleagues, preventing a sense of aimlessness in your own life or convincing your kids that it's worth going without cable TV for this year, it's something we can all benefit from learning to do better.

There are literally hundreds of articles and scores of books on setting a vision and they pop up everywhere in the 'startup world' and business setting. A lot of them are totally rubbish.

Occasionally I'll come across one I think is actually good or want to dig into a bit more, so I'm opening this issue to collect these better resources on the topic.

Also very keen to have different perspectives and we all find our reading material from different places. So what have you found helpful in this quest to setting a 'vision' (no matter how small or big)?

There are lots of variations of ‘future viewing’ ‘visioning exercises’. This looks like a simple version and a nice starting point, one year from now: https://www.forbes.com/sites/lisabodell/2018/10/30/one-year-from-now-visioning-exercise/#510531f79f0f

(one must of course remember that the one year vision must tie into the longer term vision, 20 years out)
