Should a Fish Tank have a UPS to run Vital Systems (filter & pump) ? #37

We finally have an Aquarium: https://github.com/bmhco/shared/issues/36 and will be setting it up very soon. ⏳ But the thought occurred to me: what happens in a power outage? 🤷‍♂️ Do we need to plug the filter & pump into a UPS to ensure the systems continue to operate and fish don't die...? 🐟 💀

"the most immediate threat is going to be lack of oxygen. The fish inside your tank will use up the dissolved oxygen quite quick, likely under an hour depending on the water volume"

A 900 volt amps UPS can keep the oxigenation pump running for ~5 hours according to the tests done by these guys:

Obvs this will depend on the power draw of the pump we are using in our tank but it's a good guide. Generally this will be enough time to restore the power ... ⏳

The EcoTec Marine Battery Backup mentioned in the article linked to above is kinda expensive ... €249 https://mksshop.de/epages/34ad456e-eaf1-4da6-b075-1420e40d098f.sf/en_GB/?ObjectPath=/Shops/34ad456e-eaf1-4da6-b075-1420e40d098f/Products/2125

I was thinking more along these lines: https://www.pccomponentes.pt/riello-protect-plus-prp850-sai-850va-480w

Still not "free" but if our kids form an emotional bond with the fish and they die because of a power failure I would regret not spending this money ... 😞

We purchased and installed a Riello UPS in the Aquarium: https://github.com/bmhco/shared/issues/36#issuecomment-2070099354 it's working and manuals have been stored safely. ✅
