Why?

because it's a fascinating area of computer science
because machine learning will be ubiquitous in the next few years
people who do not understand and use machine learning will be obsolete!

I think I have a video resource for both What and How: Machine Learning Recipes with Josh Gordon

Maybe some contents could be useful for both the sections.

@LasaleFamine great link! (thanks for sharing!) @anweshknayak yeah, agreed. we need to do a learn-mathematics recap/refresher for people who are doing ML/DS. 👍

Great idea @nelsonic . I will try and contribute though my maths is pretty poor these days.

Neural networks and deep learning is a pretty good introduction to NN and DL.

For a resources/light intro section Kadenze also has some interesting resources combining art and machine learning:

Machine learning for musicians and artists only covers the use of tools (no coding) but it does help develop an intuitive understanding of how regression, classification etc work.

This one using TensorFlow seems more code-based but I haven't tried it.

Google teamed with Udemy for this DL course - Deep Learning By Google.

EdX has a course in partnership with Columbia simply called Machine Learning

beware there is a significant calculus prereq. Instructor gets into multivariate calc in the first lecture, but the discussion boards are a good resource.
I'm sticking with Andrew Ng's course for now (on Coursera).

Dr. Golden's Learning Machines 101

A fantastic learning resource blog and podcast series, hosted by the ML guru, Dr. Golden. This is a recommended site from my friends studying ML at university.

And of course, there is an Awesome List :sunglasses:
