Quite a few people arguing against the competence/meritocracy view.
I feel that "it depends" on the age and mindset of the company.
In a "startup", if you can do the work and you take initiative, nobody will stop you.
Then you will build up the competence and more people will recognise your abilities/skills/experience.
From there you "just" need to build up a portfolio of online examples. e.g: https://jon.gold
and you're unstoppable!
