Most laptops have rather poor web cams built in.
Apple laptops have historically used distinctly average sensors in their "iSight" or "FaceTime" cameras...
In some situations having a 720p camera with a "average" lens quality is not "fit for purpose" e.g. when doing a face-to-face call with a client where we want as much quality as possible.
Logitech makes the best web cams I have used.
I've been using a C920 for the past few years and the quality is really good. 😍

These cameras have a fixed lens but good autofocus capability and built-in stereo microphone.
Overall I think they are an essential tool for remote working.
(provided the person working remotely has a good/stable internet connection which can support streaming video...)
