@nelsonic No objections - we should definitely speak to the painters and get them to do this as they have to paint the walls anyway.
@iteles if we are getting it painted by professionals, do you think it's worth spending the money on the Pro Paint, or do you think the MVP approach is valid?
@nelsonic How much paint do you think we'll need for that single wall?
This place sells marginally cheaper professional quality chroma-key paint: http://www.etcine.pt/gb/52-chroma-key-tintas-cenicas
But the important thing is not really the price per litre (the difference is negligible), but more that it becomes a smaller initial investment if less than 5l is needed and therefore a bit of a no-brainer given the painting itself is already a sunk cost but only this one time.
According to these reviews it's good paint but requires 3 coats. Do you think 3.8l would be enough?
@iteles good searching skills. Marginally cheaper ... €98.15/3.8L = €25.82/L 👍
The ebay one above 28.59/L which is more expensive, agreed. But given our recent experience with ordering from less well-known e-commerce websites ... Is it worth the risk?
According to my research the Rosco stuff is the best quality. The seller you've linked to above http://www.etcine.pt seems legit ... What do you think of ordering it for in-store collection when we're next in LX?
The eBay one is a touch more than that: (142.95+9.95)/5 = €30.58/l but like I said, it's negligible in terms of price difference if the quality isn't as good. But if it's better, even better 🎉
We've only had good experiences buying from Portuguese e-commerce sites, it's the Spanish and Chinese ones that have not been fantastic! But seeing as we'll be in Lisbon in September anyway, going past is a good shout. I'll call ahead to make sure it's in stock.
Do you think 3.8 litres is enough?
@iteles I think 3.8L will be enough for one wall, yes.
This retractable screen could be an option if we don't want to have the wall permanently green: https://www.corsair.com/eu/en/Categories/Products/Elgato-Gaming/Green-Screen/Green-Screen-MT/p/10GAO9901#tab-tech-specs
https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B07QWMS7X5/ Sadly, while most reviews are positive, this one is putting me off:
@nelsonic I think having a wall permanently green is pretty garish and might make the environment a little less pleasant to work in on a day-to-day. A fair amount of people might just wanta a white wall background for example.
BUT as long as everything is on wheels and people can use the opposite wall for a white background with relative ease, we can also have something like a drop-screen of a forest scape to cover the green wall in time too.
Let's go for it.
If you have no objections, I'm going to go ahead and order the 3.8 litre can for them to get painting next Monday (30-Sept-2019).
@nelsonic I reckon we can call this done!
Or do you want to test it before you close the issue?
@iteles definitely going to need to test it thoroughly ... Need to assemble the lighting and then do the tests.
According to this good video on "DIY vs Professional paint": https://youtu.be/y91Sk24vRuM the professional paint is worth it for the consistent color and light reflectiveness.
The only professional paint supplier that I've found that ships directly to PT (I don't want to have it delivered to London and then have to re-ship it to PT cause that's an expensive and time-consuming faff!) https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Keyfarbe-TV415-Ultimatte-Green-5l-Chroma-Key-Farbe-fur-Greenscreen-Greenbox/282348942257
Further investigation indicates that the paint/background matters far less than the lighting: https://youtu.be/D2E601B-ktg
Thinking of ordering this DIY paint from Leroy: https://www.leroymerlin.pt/Produtos/Pintura-e-drogaria/Pintura-de-interior/Tinta-cor-salas-e-quartos/WPR_REF_18084164
Will test the effect and if it does not work, I will spend the big bucks on the Professional Paint. My reasoning is that most video editing software chroma-keying is sample-based, i.e. an eyedropper is used to select the color range that will be keyed out. see: https://github.com/dwyl/video/issues/10#issuecomment-526541078
@iteles anything against me painting one wall of the @home Media room? (should we ask Carlos first in case his chap can help or he has any objections...?)
