"400 Bad Request (invalid revision designator)" on every operation

I get the 400 error on all kinds of operations: queries on any repositories I have access to, or even when trying to download a repository to my hard drive.

this was a temporary problem while we we installing a new version. so far as i can see now, the repositories are available without issue.
