Fly to Wellington
Car-ferry to Picton
Drive to Golden bay
Drive through Nelson Lakes
Drive around past Punakaiki
Pop by Lake Brunner
Head through the Alps to Arthur's Pass
Down to Christchurch
Up to Hanmer Springs for a soak
Ride dolphins to Kaikoura
Back to Wellington

It might be too much driving for a week, but it is a good modifiable loop.

@halorgium seems like a lot of driving. Not going to be over for long so might try and cut it down a bit. Especially since I don't drive so wouldn't want the other person doing a lot. I've been to CHC so maybe Wellington to Lake Brunner and then loop from there, but even that seems like a lot of driving.

Yea, lots of driving but I don't mind driving, so cool either way. Also, hoping to do this NZ visit with Bel, so chatting with her about getting time off from her work. Seems like we might be able to do up to 10 days in NZ, but a week is much more likely. She seems hopeful which is good, but we'll have to find what weekends she's working in October and work around that. Or is this a mantrip?

Nope, that'll be sweet. Will only have time for a week max I think, unless I skip out on something else when I'm back in Australia, but don't want to do that currently. Has Bel been to NZ before? I'll probably show Kat a couple of days around Wellington so the actual road trip would be (7 - days in Wellington). Thinking about early flight there and late flight back though to maximise time.

@DylanFM ah cool. You should definitely try for the longer visit then. We can always meet you at a certain point.

A plan could be to continue up the coast with the Scots and the Germans could fly back from CHC. Do you use video-forms-of-communication for planning?
