as discussed: I prepared a draft for the v4.2.0 release. If ok with you, we can

Merge this PR
Publish the release
Send out an email announcement (se draft attached, feel free to edit 😉)
Update the documentation (see attached html.zip) - who can do this?

All systems go: (1) I ran test_notebooks.sh successfully, (2) the documentation look as expected, and (3) the email text looks good! I think it's ready to merge and release :)

Update the documentation (see attached html.zip) - who can do this?

I believe @ejlilley has just handed over webmaster responsibility to @boeckera ...? If so, Alina, could you upload our new docs to group website, i.e. dump the whole html.zip folder into the appropriate place on our group website.
