Hello c.ccerbo,
"Cut/Copy and Paste of a selected area doesn't work"
Thank you for pointing this out, but that feature has not been implemented yet.
Look for an update soon :)

Thanks for your prompt answer!
gnome-paint is the tool I'm looking for! Currently I'm using Kolourpaint, but
I'd prefer a software based on GTK and gnome-paint is very promising!

Firstly, great application -- thanks. Secondly, I would like to add a vote to
prioritize the implementation of cut/copy/paste. It is a vital feature which
would make gnome-paint much more usable. Lastly, until it is implemented I
would recommend graying out those options on the menu, because I spent while
trying to figure out why it wouldn't work.
Thanks again, and keep up the good work!

And still the cut copy paste function does not work. This is a very important
work when we use the paint software. Think we have to go back to Windows Paint.

Is this software even being developed? Are there any reliable alternatives on
Ubuntu?

How in the hell is this not the first thing you put into a basic paint program?
This should have been implemented before the ability to click and drag a
rectangle.
