I personally never had this problem.

Nextcloud version: 17.0.6

That version is extremely old. Neither we nor the Nextcloud devs support it anymore. Please update to version 20, 21 or 22 (see #305 , because we will update this app soon, wich might fix your problem) Also note, that external storages are currently not supported.
