In this section we will explain what we mean when we talk about “the health system”, which is very different from a Health IT or eHealth system! Health systems research is of course a whole research field in its own right, and you will only get a very brief introduction here, but if you find this interesting please explore the links to literature provided. We have invited the senior professor of International Health Systems Research Göran Tomson from the Health Systems and Policy research group at Karolinska Institutet to give a brief introduction to what the building blocks of a health system are. If you want to hear more about this topic, we also recommend you to watch this longer lecture by professor Tomson: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KLSv8zrO3Kk . We will also discuss some of the differences between health, social and self-care when it comes to the use of eHealth.
