Alan Turing's Birthday is on the 23rd of June. We're going to make it special.

Every year, people (mostly from Reddit, it turns out) pledge bunches of flowers to be placed at Alan Turing's statue in Manchester UK for his birthday. In the process we raise money for the amazing charity Special Effect, which helps people with disabilities access computer games.

Since 2013 we've raised about £7600 doing this, and we'd like 2021 to be our biggest year ever. Anyone who wants to get involved is welcome. Donations are made up of £3.50 to cover the cost of your flowers and a £14 charity contribution to Special Effect for a total of £17.50.

Manchester city council have confirmed they are fine with it, and we have people in Manchester who will help handle the set up and clean up.

• I've found where I keep the details of previous donors, and that it isn't up to date (It has 2016 and 2017, but NOT 2018/2019

How would you explain Flowers for Turing to people?

Here's why I'm asking. Every year, I put the text below onto Reddit. Lots of strangers see and, wonderfully, are moved to send flowers. It's such a lovely thing. However, I also put it on Facebook where, while it gets some lovely shares and likes from my friends (which I'm super-grateful for), it generally goes down like a lead balloon. I suspect that might be because Facebook and Reddit require very different writing styles. So I'm trying to work out how to write the below in a way that Facebook would like. Any ideas?

• I've set up emails about getting images for a/b testing
• I've set up the first UK post as a result of looking into https://www.delayforreddit.com/analysis/subreddit/unitedkindom, which said that the time was now. So now I've got to check in with it later

Okay, what else can I do?

Guide to taking photos.

Photos! Some things that will help take good photos of the statue (in June).

• Don't have any of the sky in frame.
• A mixture of distances
• Ideally an action shot of someone putting flowers down.

01/06/21 14:07 to 14:19, Okay I want to check the analytics for FFT but I'll do that on the other screen. +EQT

• Relatively few people went through (17) from reddit today, but three converted, which is really good.
• The funnel is broken somehow. Nowshare.html wasn't in the funnel(!), I put it in, but the funel visualisation shows someone exciting the funnel by going to nowshare, so that's strange. I'll try it again tomorrow (this also means that the a/b experiment stops, but that's okay.
• I've been using the custom links but I can't work out how to get google analytics to break them down for me.
