Move all eQT sites to github pages

I'm highly fed up with dreamhost and the sites need moving over to github pages.

Sites

• [x] Flowers For Turing
• [x] White Water Writers
• [x] The Open Voice Factory
• [ ] eQuality Time

So this has become a bigger project that focuses much more on removal from dreamhost.

There are two ways that look good in terms of moving away from Dreamhost

• Github Pages
• Digital Occean (recommended by a reasonably large number of people when we asked)

In practice, we're probably putting some sites on one and the rest on the other.

To experiment with Github Pages - I found our my least-important site (novareddington.com) and used it as a dummy for the transfer. Novareddington.com is registered on QiQ and hosted on Dreamhost the same way that the eQuality Sites all are.

The steps I followed were:

• Creating a simple Repo which has this hosted site
• Using the settings page to set the custom domain to novareddington.com

I now have to get novareddington.com to point to github and I've ended up opening this ticket at QiQ:

Hello,

I own novareddington.com and would like visits to be taken to the site hosted at https://joereddington.github.io/site-novareddington.com/. Github's instructions for using a custom domain say to "Your site's DNS settings are using a custom subdomain, www.novareddington.com, that's set up as an A record. We recommend you change this to a CNAME record pointing at [YOUR USERNAME].github.io. For more information, see https://help.github.com/articles/setting-up-a-custom-domain-with-github-pages/" - can you tell me how I would make the changes from QiQ?

(The A record is from Dreamhost - which I am trying to move away from)

I'll wait for a response on that, but also find out more about Digital Occean and how the droplet system works.

• Attempted to try a personal account on Digital Occean and was locked out.
• Further bothered by the costs associated with digital occean
• Trying AWS, they have a system called lightsail - I have signed up for a one month trial and created a multi-site wordpress instance.
• Have adjusted QIQ's nameservers for novareddington.com to go to AWS where there is a CNAME to direct them to Github. Will find out if that works tomorrow.
• I'm generally happier with the AWS than digital occean
• There are a lot of sites to move and this should be done one at a time.
  • Moving Flowers for Turing to a github pages site is a good call, and I'll try that out on the laptop shortly.

There has been significant progress.

• I've moved email properly over to Google Suite
• I've rebuilt the whitewaterwriters site in Jekyll and hosted on github pages.
• Flowers for Turing is the next one to do to the same to (because I'm currently, annoyingly locked out of the site and because it's small and non-dynamic)

Flowers for turing is done. White Water Writers has it's own project. My blog is elsewhere. Google Analytics has been boosted. The next action is to start at the top of this and start again.

So. eQuality Time is next to be moved, and honestly, I'm unsure if it should be. It has a couple of pages that are dynamially generated and it's got a few pages of general content. Let's see what happens for a bit.
