The problem is, that IE can not wrap the long URLs. The current solution was, that we displayed only the domain and host, but sometimes even it is too long for IE, so I added another rule, that if domain and host are longer than 30 character we display only the last part of it. An example:

Full URL is: "http://tq7xh3ee6l.search.serialssolutions.com/?V=1.0&L=TQ7XH3EE6L&S=JCs&C=TC_001275969&T=marc"

Previously we displayed: "http://tq7xh3ee6l.search.serialssolutions.com..."

Now we display only "http://...serialssolutions.com..."

The link behind the label does not change, it points to the right resource.

When I worked on solving this problem I found another problem. We merge the links from manifestation and holdings records, but they sometime (quite often) contain the same link, and thus we show it twice. Unfortunatelly it is not easy to filter out duplicates, because the format is different. An example: in manifestation "PDF version <link>", in holdings "<link> PDF version". I plan to restructure the index, and the new structure will contain information about the original location (w, e, m, h) of each fields, but I don't know which is the right source: manifestation or holdings? Jennifer, could you give me your advice?

This is an oddity of Rochester data - we prefer using the links from Holdings to the links in Manifestations. Fixing the double links will really just benefit the UR, so I think it should be prioritized accordingly.

Now there is a popup selection on the admin ui, where the admin can select one of the following options:

• Only from holdings records.
• Only from manifestation record.
• First try holdings, and if no link in holdings then try manifestation.
• First try manifestation, and if no link in manifestation then try holdings.

The URLs will be displayed accoring to the admin's setting.
