improve frequency typing input #637

This is the same change as #617 but shouldn't make the merge graph look like spaghetti, haha.

Thank you, @ea4k.

But this PR didn't fix the typing issue. It seems like it's still emitting events on my side which makes editing the frequency field a PITA. Are you getting the same results over there or is this a weird Linux issue? Scratch that. It DID fix the issue.
