Toogle display of feature names on map on/off #323

Open GoogleCodeExporter opened 9 years ago

GoogleCodeExporter commented 9 years ago
Which products are relevant to this feature request?

Google Earth

What should this feature enhancement do?

Recommend having an option to toggle the display of feature names as
labels on the map. If a given KML resource has many features then the
labels obscure much of the map details and placemarks themselves. A toggle
option would allow user to define when the labels should be shown without
having the KML designer to hard code one or the other options.

This will be similar to the option to toggle the grid lines but this would
affect whether the labels are rendered or not.

Are there any currently known workarounds that produce the same, or
similar, result?

Work-around is either not include a name for a given feature then you have
untitled labels in the menu list view which makes finding placemarks in
the list nearly impossible. A better approach is using a styleMap with
labelStyle scale = 0 by default and scale = 1 in highlight mode but this
prevents showing all the labels which is sometimes desired.

Hi,
wondering why this issue hasn't been assigned to a developer yet.
Has there been any further progress, or has it been put on hold?
thx

I REALLY need this feature. Please give it some consideration sooner rather
than later.

An addition could be: Toggle between On/Off/Automatic
Automatic is depending on the fontsize relative to nearby markers and zoomlevel.

This would help me so much. . Or at least having the option to select multiple
pins, then I could just turn the style to 0, but not individually for my 69
manually inputed addresses!

I just came to this problem as well and I am not nicely surprised this is not
as common feature. Hmm....

Couldn't believe that this feature was ever requested back in 2009, and nothing
has been done on it during the past 4 years! This is obviously a very
important and useful function when you're dealing with many landmarks. So,
please, Google, add it to the new release of Earth. Thanks.

Looks like this one has been given an unofficial "Will Not Fix", so perhaps
someone could inbox me about collaborating to code up an Add-On for GE and
Chrome which controls the labeling a little better.
