no, we need a spherical texture map. i was thinking of using this one: http://paulbourke.net/miscellaneous/starfield/

This is the image I have: http://www.eso.org/public/images/eso0932a/ Bill and I identified the path for the milky way (shown by a green or blue line on the star map I sent Tuesday this week.) I also got permission from Lars at ESO to use it. Thanks for the link about how to work with the image file!
