It would be nice to have the ability to scroll between images with left click on the far left and right sides of the screen,
just like you could in some other image viewers like nomacs, nsxiv or ImageGlass.
The area that can be recognized to change the cursor functionality could look something like this,
but obviously you shouldn't be able to see it, only the cursor should change.
Another way of doing this is to add smaller buttons on the sides that go away after a small period of time.
