phosphatidylinositol-3,5-bisphosphate #2049

This is a question from the GO/CHEBI alignment projet:

I have a question concening this term. I drew in a structure in the submission tool (not yet submitted), using R to indicate the fatty acids. The tool matched this to CHEBI:698750, phosphatidylinositol-3,5-bisphosphate; However, THIS term has two specific fatty acids. It seems to me that this should not be called THE phosphatidylinositol-3,5-bisphosphate; it is certainly an type of phosphatidylinositol-3,5-bisphosphate; one of many depending on the R groups, which is what GO intends as its use: "phosphatidylinositol-3,5-bisphosphate biosynthesis" would be the synthesis of any phosphatidylinositol-3,5-bisphosphate, not just the specific one represented in CHEBI:698750. I feel I should go ahead and try to submit my term, with the existing CHEBI 698750 as an is_a to it; since both have the same name, this may cause a problem?

Hi Harold,

There are a couple of other CHEBI entries which may provide what you require: CHEBI 16851 1-phosphatidyl-1D-myo-inositol 3,5-bisphosphate is slightly more specific - it specifies the (most common) myo-configuration. Its parent term is: CHEBI:37328 phosphatidylinositol bisphosphate which is slightly less specific - it doesn't specify the positions of the phosphate groups.

If you still require your term, there should be no problem providing it is submitted after 7th February, since the problem record, CHEBI:698750, is a CHEMBL entry and so will disappear from CHEBI with the next release.

Best regards, Gareth
