Search function result sorting optimization? #4391

Hi ChEBI,

Doing a search for a string with a space in it often gives me results where the chemical whose title is the exact string I entered is low on the result page. Searching for "rhodamine B", with quotation marks, gets me this:

I know search result sorting is harder than it seems. But would it be possible to have the entry whose title is an exact match for a search string come first in the result list? Sometimes this happens, like in a search for "vitamin A", but not always. Thank you!

Hi, We are currently redeveloping ChEBI so this search functionality will be improved when the new website is live in 2 years time. In the meantime, I would suggest removing any spaces in the name when searching. This will enable the search result to appear at the top of the page. Try searching for rhodamineB instead of rhodamine B.
