annotation comment #1

Hi,

At one of our recent annotation conference calls we felt that we should be able to make a comment on why a particular experiment/result was not captured as an annotation and make this comment visible to the public. http://wiki.geneontology.org/index.php/Annotation_Conf._Call,_April_28,_2015#Discussion

1) Is there a way to capture this in Protein2GO 2) how do we display this to the public (amigo and quickgo)

Thanks, Rama

Hi Rama,

Thanks for the ticket! We just discussed with @tonysawfordebi and Aleks: (1) We can think of a way to implement this using the current comment fields in Protein2GO, adding a new type of topic (e.g., "public") and then liaising with @TonyWardell for display in QuickGO. We would need to check with the AmiGO dev how to best exchange that information with them. (2) We have a few concerns: (2a) Is there a chance that this free text comment becomes a "catch all" (instead of being only for those annotations curators chose not to make) (2b) Aleks points out that (i) there are guidelines in terms of what curators annotate or not and (ii) curation would evolve over time anyway

Perhaps, given that neither of us attended the annotation call on April 28, this could be brought up at an upcoming call? We may be missing some background information, and the format of the ticket also makes it hard to communicate extensively on the topic.

Cheers, Melanie

Melanie,

Thanks for your thoughts. Yes I already put this on the agenda for tomorrow's call (just to let people know and to think about it, we won't have time to discuss it). I was also thinking of how to control the comments.
