Doxycycline #2

Open brianmackenna opened 3 years ago

brianmackenna commented 3 years ago

The Principle trial is testing hydroxychloqoquine (arm suspended), azithromycin and doxycycline.

We already have codelists for hcq and azithromycin. We should make one for doxycycline as if the trial is positive we may want to assess changes in prescribing across England.

I can't find the actual dosing information sheet from Principle......I have created a list

https://codelists.opensafely.org/builder/1af2169f/

I have included all preparations for doxycycline that is traditionally used as antibiotic (which has antiviral/antinflammatory properties). I have excluded doxy monohydrate as used for rosacea/skin and am assuming not in principle (tho we should confirm at some point).

@richiecroker could you have a check please?

I'm happy this code list is correct. (Side note - interesting that VIbramycin-D is listed as hyclate, when actually it's the monohydrate https://openprescribing.net/dmd/vmp/324072007/)

GREAT spot! Feedback to company or dm+d directly? dmd are responsive to feedback and have acted on 3/4 of our issues to date and made update

To elaborate on the issue above as we've realised it isn't immediately obvious what the issue is (sorry!)

The ingredient field for the corresponding VMP for Vibramycin-D is listed as monohydrate which is correct. However the corresponding BNF code is listed as 0501030I0AAAEAE.

The BNF code 0501030I0AAAEAE relates to doxycyline HYCLATE.

Doxycycline MONOHYDRATE has a BNF code beginning 0501030Z0. These relationships between the dm+d and BNF are provided here by the NHS Business Services Authority who maintain both systems and this is what is listed for https://openprescribing.net/dmd/vmp/324072007/ which is consistent with the OP dm+d browser
