how does the API key need to be formatted? it asks for a json but I'm not quite sure how to format it, thank you

You shouldn't need to format the key yourself. It should just be the JSON file you download from Google at the end of this process: https://cloud.google.com/docs/authentication/getting-started#creating_a_service_account
