discussed at DL day - in the first instance we should think about it as a feature on the website incorporating unavailability/discontinued and price changes
Devlopment of this feature will also help with our understanding of dm+d and we can think about further developments e.g. email at at later date, possibly funded somewhere.
This morning in my daily update email from NICE I happened to notice a contraceptive called Cilest has been discontinued (see here) Normally I wouldn't notice it but the name caught me as it is a commonly prescribed medicine which is borne out by the analyse page
This is likely to create quite a bit of patient time in getting their script switched. The dm+d does record these discontinuations...........an email alert on all discontinued products, tailored to your practice/CCG may be a reasonable assistance to at least warn practices of impending switches. A national alert would also be good as my impression is that discontinuations are ad-hoc and not notified to national organisations.
