Made the Readme file prettier by using markdown instead of just plain text.

Hmm, can you manually line-break it so that it's still plain-text readable in an 80-column terminal, like the old one was? Also, please make the links use references rather than putting the URLs inline in the text, again to make the source more readable. Markdown is all very well for the web, but people reading their local copy may not have a Markdown interpreter handy.

Another option would be to both have the txt and the md file, the txt for downloaded versions and md for github?

That would violate SPOT, unless one is auto-generated from the other. (I don't know if there's a decent MD toolchain that could do that.)
