Markdown Formatting Treats Spaces after Symbols Differently than Steemit #220

Expected Behavior

Markdown syntax which modify the formatting of a selection of text (e.g. Bold, Italics) do not apply if the initiating symbol has a Space after it.

Actual Behavior

Markdown syntax which modify the formatting of a selection of text (e.g. Bold, Italics) still apply if the initiating symbol has a Space after it.

User Impact

This is inconsistent with Steemit and results in posts authored in Steemit to have unintended formatting in random places when viewing in eSteem.

How to Reproduce

  1. Launch eSteem 1.5.0 on Android 8.1.0
  2. Click the 3 Horizontal Lines in the Upper Left
  3. Select 'Home'
  4. Click on the 'Pencil' icon in the Upper Right
  5. In 'Post Content' enter: o Etc o
  6. Fill out all other required fields and select 'Post'
  7. Compare the Bold formatting on eSteem to Steemit
Device: Pixel 2 XL
OS: Android 8.1.0
App Version: 1.5.0
