Awesome - latest commit uses add44k, which somehow saves even more memory while not crashing Protracker! My A500 512KB+512KB (where the second 512KB is slowmem, thus invisible to Protracker) shows 425848 bytes (426KB) available after Protracker has loaded, which seems pretty decent to me. Case closed!
Welp, I forgot that PT still relies on some kickstart UI stuff - particularly for the warning dialogue when you change floppy disks and the Disk Op menu is still looking for the previous disk's label. I'll comment out the add36k call in startup-sequence while I test with add21k to see if that's any more stable.
