Icons for motion / no motion #3356

In the classic iconset, we already have this icon named motion.png: motion

Anyone to design the corresponding "no motion" icon ?

Then we could have motion.png, motion-on.png and motion-off.png.

lolodomo commented 7 years ago

I would suggest to change color for this icon as it is almost not visible when using a dark theme like the one proposed by HABdroid.

How about a large "X" across your icon for "motion-off"? Maybe even in red?

lolodomo commented 7 years ago

For no motion i would imagine a similar icon to motion but with a man not moving and without the "circles" at left and right indicating movement. For the colours, I could imagine green for no motion and red for motion.

I created these icons: off / closed motion-off on / open motion-on

If you are interested, I can provide a PR to include these icons in the official classic iconset.

Just out of my mind: At first I thought the green icon is the "move" and the red is the "stop" icon because people know it since the traffic light was invented. So maybe you should invert the colors?

There is also an ongoing discussion about the accessibility in general so we should keep in mind that some people have trouble distinguishing between red and green. But you would have the "standing" icon which is "stop" and the "walking" icon which would be "motion" then.

In an alarm system, motion detection is never a green state ;)

I could provide the icons in a unique color (and keep the version with green/red only for me). We just have to find a color adapted to bright and dark theme. Blue ?

In general this is correct. But it does not apply here: the color is not the only property to identify them, the icons are different in shape.

I fully agree for an alarm system. But keep in mind that motion detectors are used for less critical use-cases too, e.g. turning on the light when somebody enters the bathroom 😄

Anyway, how about making the green one gray - then it less resembles a traffic light and you would still have red to highlight the motion (which is the state we are looking for) - similar as the light bulb which is gray when off and colored then on?

Maybe we can ask @reitermarkus for help as he is the designer of the Classic icon set - looking at the existing icons, I have the impression that the suggested ones here do not really fit the design of the other icons and I would like to avoid a "deterioration" of the iconset in terms of a homogenious design line.
