@J-N-K As this PR contains more than 1000 new loc, we'd have to create a CQ for it - if you want to avoid this, you might want to break it down into smaller (independent) parts (if feasible). If not, let me know and I'll create the CQ.

This contains all changes from #6432, if that is merged, only around 400 loc will remain.

This only depends on some changes from there, I‘ll remove that from here once the other one is merged.
