implement build version info

This PR does:

• The version is the now defined in one single place src/version.py in the entire repo
• Display git hash in the "About Window" and the log
  • When someone reports a bug this can be important information
• Implement check-for-updates window to get the latest master build
• Update deprecated macOs runner from 12 to 13
