That works on Solaris 10. Windows should not be an issue. I understand that there might be problems with Ubuntu.

Hello, It would be nice if we can run GF on port 80/443 as a non-root user on all platforms. The Apache Commons-Daemon "jsvc" supports this in a x-platform way and works great with Tomcat 5.5.x. This avoids "fronting" the app-server with Apache HTTP server.
