[x] add tests
[x] expand explanation of placeholder node types
[x] improve explanation of what the layer unzipper does (alternating is not clear enough)
[x] add option to reset 'shift ladder' when hitting long edge dummies
[x] search for layer split property on all nodes of a layer and take the first one that is set, otherwise take the default value
