Hi, For the Lessons learned from real-world microservice adoption section, I have gone through all the comments. Thank you for the constructive feedback, it has improved the section. I have resolved all the comments, except two, which need further discussion. If you have additional suggestions how to improve the section, please let me know. The only thing I can think of would be to add a CIO statement from one of the companies we are working with, if this would make sense? Thanks, Matjaz

Thank you for moving the private thread to this issue @MBJuric! Super fun to follow process OSS-- I have added 2nd review round to my calendar for this week. 💯 on it! :)

Quickly added to the document comments for Lars about our internal exchange to adjust your name as part of the Contributor's section (at the end of the document instead of the section- Markus from Lightbend, also is part of the individual section, like you) The goal is to make sure all contributors are listed in the same place to avoid distractions from content.

@rsjames we have moved the white paper conversations to git as part of alignment of all past and current Branding projects of 2019.

We are coming to the end of the writing of the write paper so this pulls you in to provide feedback first. :)

Should your time be allocated to this project, you are NOT yet:

If we all feel the white paper has been looked over enough. We can move it to design. The document is 18 pages now. I am estimating when formatted the pages could be 30-40 pages.

From a design point of view a white paper has not been done before so creating a styling will take sometime. Estimated design time 5-7 +- After the initial design is done. Time should be given for comments. Depending on how many comments and adjustments their are will add time to the delivery.

page 1 This is among others mainly because of there is lack of a centralized runtime in the design of any distributed system. This sentence is confusing. Possibly replace the words there is with an a.

Hello everyone, Attached you will find the first version of the MP white paper PDF.

Design is still rough.

Content We are right now missing images referenced in the document. When I have these items I will re-draw them in the MP style and add them to the document. But sense I do not know how all these images will look and the space they might take on a page the layouts will most likely will change a lot.

@rstjames since you are not explicit about what have not been added to newest version, I repeated a few core must features missing from latest version. If those core featutures are not available for tmw's Community hangout, we will push "show & tell" until they are in the document. Let me know if you need further clarification to implement any of them. Many are directly on the first PDF version and also in the word document that pulls you via Comments. Cheers.

  1. I just added the missing pictures to the document. How can I provide the original PNGs? Is there a special place inside the google drive for MP Technical White Paper related images?
  2. I answered all questions inside the document
  3. I resolved all comments inside the document

2) Major re-work will be done on the design to include the feedback sent, currently we are using PDF draft for that collaboration. You are most welcomed to check it out!

ETA release-- I expect white paper to be ready no later than the end of this month.

@aeirashttps://github.com/aeiras @rstjameshttps://github.com/rstjames I added round about 40 comments to the pdf, most of them only related to very small issues (e.g. typos).

One question about the images I draw and the therefore used icons. I own a personal license for these icons but I am not 100% sure if I am allowed to publish them. I took all the icons from flaticon.com where I own a PREMIUM account (see licence at https://www.flaticon.com/profile/preagreement/getstarted/)

The license says “Forget about having to attribute an illustration with a Premium Subscription. Use any illustration either for commercial or personal use without crediting the author.“, so IMO it should be possible to use the icons. If you don’t think so or if you see any risk it would be the best, if you could provide me with an icon library or single icons that you own publish rights for or that is free of any license.

I would need icons for (see also icons inside my images for a better understanding)

That is pretty great @mobileLarson! Ryan is in vacation until late next week. Upon his return, he will tackle all the feedback you have provided directly on the latest version. We were concerned a few things from using word document and PDF were lost. My job is to go through it this wknd as you have done and find errors too. About the designs, we will figure it out next week with Ryan and follow up with you. The imagines are fantastic so Ryan and I chose not to even touch them. If we have to, we will do so. :) Ryan is better equipped to handle that side once he gets back.

  1. @rstjameshttps://github.com/rstjames what kind of font do you use inside the document?

  2. IMO it would make sense that I use the same font for the text elements inside my images. In addition it would be great if all the images could be scaled in the same way. I tried to use the same font sizes e.g. for service names, the explanation, etc. for all images. But because of different scaling, it does not look the same inside the document. Best example for the different scaling are the two images on page 08, 09 and 19. It would be great if the microservices pictograms and all the font sizes are alike on both images. To help you you @rstjameshttps://github.com/rstjames to be able to scale the images with the same factor (e.g. the two images images page 08, page 09 and page 19) and to make them more consistent I reworked some of the images (see google drive https://drive.google.com/drive/u/0/folders/1cfvYUdVLUwMDIF6rTUSV4pLJ2jo5MXkL images_lars_v2.zip). In detail I changed … checkout_choreography_v2:

    • I decreased the height – by repositioning some of the elements - so that the image can be zoomed out to the same factor as the image checkout_orchestration image.

    • I changed the text color inside the event boxes from white to blue due to better readability microprofile_3_0_v2:

    • cause there a no new APIs – other than in the previous releases – I removed “new” from the explanation

    • I changed the dark orange boxes to light orange boxes to be more consistent with the document theme configapi_v2:

    • I decreased the height – by repositioning some of the elements – so that the available free space on the page could be used in a better way

    • changed the white boxes to light orange to bring a little bit more color to the page and to make the image more consistent to the other images (@rstjameshttps://github.com/rstjames which version do you prefer for this image? White boxes or light orange boxes?) openapi_v2:

    • I changed the dark orange boxes to light orange boxes to be more consistent with the document theme

    • Made the “MicroProfile OpenAPI Vendor” box a little bit more “eye friendly”

    • @rstjameshttps://github.com/rstjames taking a look at the fold between page 24 and 25, the fold cuts the “MicroProfile Application” box of this image. I tried to make the image a little bit @rstjameshttps://github.com/rstjames Please replace the current versions of the images with the new once (v2) Lars

The main goal of any picture that is not related to content needs to be focused on MP Community. That means, hangout pics, monthly stats (I added 1 month), MP.io release design, etc. Anything that doesn't fit that needs to be dropped. :)
