Chapter 1 meetings & updates #7

Hi all, we just finished the first meeting for which we were pretty much all (except @oharac) unprepared. So we ended up going through some of @oharac 's code and discussing some logistics too.

For next week we decided to stick with the same goals for this week to give us all some time to catch up and get a better discussion in, and push the problem set at the end of the chapter to the following week.

Next week's meeting will be at the same time and same place (Thursday 11-12:30 in the Pine room or on Zoom).

I'm glad you guys didn't notice my absence haha. I'm sorry I couldn't make it today. I forgot for a moment that we were meeting and when I remembered I was without an internet connection. I know it is the worse excuse ever, but... that's what happened. I did the reading, though, and will keep on working on the chapter for next week.

I booked the Pine room for the thursday timeslot for the next month so meet there if you're at Bren.

I'm sorry guys I won't be able to join the meeting today. I'll work on my version of the problem set for next week, that's when we will look at it, right?

hey all, is 11:00 PDT on Thursday good for everyone again this week? I'm back so can meet y'all in the Pine Room, but I've set up a Zoom link for remote people to call in: https://ucsb.zoom.us/j/376599896 (I believe this is now set up as a recurring meeting, so the same link should work each week)

This week we're gonna dive into the ecology questions at the end of the chapter, using code to answer them wherever necessary and appropriate.

also for Thursday - try to write your code to include functions, e.g. a doubling time function, and then use that function to answer the questions.
