Measuring 'Impact' of (Select?) Forecasts for Ecological Conservation and Management #10

Open trashbirdecology opened 1 year ago

trashbirdecology commented 1 year ago

What? Discussion surrounding identifying ways in which we can effectively measure the impact of EFI activities and investments. For example, how is a single model/forecast product or derivative product being used by land managers, science support organizations (e.g., USGS), or policy makers.

Why? Identify key case studies for demonstrating the value and usefulness of forecasts and investing in forecasting activities.

Potential Outcomes A brief or white paper outlining the ways in which organizations might attempt to measure and communicate 'impact of X on Z.' Select examples that demonstrate value of X activity or product for conservation/management for various audiences that can be used by EFI and friends for drumming up interest and appreciation for forecasts investments.

@trashbirdecology - I just added my idea as Issue #12. I think your idea complements mine in two ways. 1) It would be good to think about if there are metrics we can use to measure the impact of the materials we develop for conferences, but I think more importantly, it would also 2) Be good to identify the key case studies of forecast activities and their value and usefulness in this project and then use that in the materials created for the conference.
