I think there's a summer student through the Finnish Meteorological Institute looking to use the CESM docker container to revise/finish the coupling of CESM to PEcAn. They won't get started till after the EFI meeting, but this may be a good route to getting CLM forecasts running, especially if you wanted to integrate data assimilation, not just "blind" forecasts every day. Would also be interested to hear to what extent the CESM docker is using NEON site-specific data to initialize model pools, as this is something we've implemented in PEcAn too.
I also like the GEFS downscaling idea.
+1 for the GEFS downscaling idea
A related idea is to make the NEON site meteorology (gap and gap-filled) data more easily available. What is the current latency of observed data?
The CESM-lab is a tool that came out of the NCAR-NEON project. It is a dockerized version of CLM that is forced with NEON meteorological data. It would be interesting to explore the changes needed to enable forecasts to be generated using the new model framework.
